After acquiring medical and dental degrees, oral and maxillofacial surgeons complete basic surgical training then 4 years full time speciality surgical training in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Once an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon completes their training, they get the letters FRACDS (OMS).
FRACDS stands for Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
The Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons is the only regulatory body which trains oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Australia. They are recognised by the Australian Prudential Health Regulation Authority (AHPRA), Australian Medical Council, Australian Dental Association, Medicare, Australian health funds, and private hospitals.
OMS stands for Oral Maxillofacial Surgeon.
